Hi,

This bug was reported by a Debian user

My news server recently started requiring authentication information.
Now after some time of inactivity, "g" in the group buffer fails to
detect new messages. I have to close the server manually to get it to
work again for a while.

Part of the output of strace -e read, write, connect while this happens
reads:

write(10, "LIST ACTIVE rec.games.int-fictio"..., 35) = 35
write(10, "LIST ACTIVE rec.arts.int-fiction"..., 34) = 34
write(10, "LIST ACTIVE comp.os.linux.announ"..., 36) = 36

read(8, 0x94908e8, 512) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
(and it doesn't show any new connection being made earlier).
