RSS feeds is the popular way now for reading news. Will gnus support it?

Yes. Gnus supports RSS with nnrss backend. Try 'G R'
(gnus-group-make-rss-group) in group buffer.

I just grabbed gnus from CVS, did 'G R', then tried to add
http://slashdot.org/index.rss but it says

  No feeds found for http://slashdot.org/index.rss

Any clues? Thanks.

I had never tried G R before last night when I saw the response to your
message, but I gave it the URL of the .xml file which provides the RSS feed,
and it worked great. e.g. http://us1.samba.org/samba/news/sambanews.xml

I like rss2email [1] very much. I use it together with w3m-emacs to read
some blogs and it always works without problems.

Did you ever realize how much text fits in eighty columns? If you now consider
that a signature usually consists of up to four lines, this gives you enough
space to spread a tremendous amount of information with your messages. So seize
this opportunity and don't waste your signature with bullshit nobody will read.

Well, it worked great for that one feed, but trying it with others,
e.g. http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml,
yields that "No feeds found" message.

I have no time this weekend, but will look into it from Monday.

Are all you using the latest nnrss.el? `The latest' means the
Gnus CVS head or the Emacs CVS head. I recently noticed the
nnrss-find-el function doesn't work with some kind of data which
xml.el parsed, and I fixed it with the following ChangeLog:

2005-04-06 Katsumi Yamaoka <yamaoka@jpl.org>
[...]
(nnrss-find-el): Use consp instead of listp.

I confirmed Gnus works with http://slashdot.org/index.rss,
http://us1.samba.org/samba/news/sambanews.xml, and
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml
regardless of the value of mm-url-use-external, in Emacs 21, 22
and XEmacs.

An upgrade from the latest in Debian "Sarge" to CVS fixed the problem. I'm
paranoid of running CVS gnus -- my mail is too important to lose -- but this
version seems to be working fine (I hope). I just need to be cautious of
upgrades. :-)

Thanks!

Just tried the http://en.wikinews.org/ RSS with a few minutes old
GNUS:

XML-RPC is not available... not checking Syndic8.
gnus-group-make-rss-group: No feeds found for http://feeds.feedburner.com/WikinewsLatestNews

That already was the right URL of the feed. How should
xml-rpc.el help (and it doesn't help)?
