Er, yes.  Furthermore, what about moving, linking or copying this
function to gnus-art.el under the name
article-remove-leading-whitespace (or similar), and extending it to
look like the other aritcle-{hide,strip,etc}-* functions (interactive,
save-excursion and stuff).
