Although the manual, I believe, doesn't really say how to set the value for marking as read based on score, I did find this variable eventually: gnus-summary-mark-below. thanks and sorry for the noise, eric -- : Eric S Fraga, GnuPG: 0xFFFCF67D : in Emacs 25.0.92.1 + Gnus v5.13 + evil-git-ff74cfb : BBDB version 3.1.2 (2015-10-28 10:47:01+00:00) ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 6+ messages in thread

It's taken me a little time to get the right balance through setting the values of various marks etc. but I seem to have stabilised on a combination that works for me. However, the default for articles to be marked automatically as read seems to be a value below -50. I would like this value to be somewhat lower, e.g. -300 as suggested in the manual: If you use this scheme, you should set the score file atom ‘mark’ to something small—like -300, perhaps, to avoid having small random changes result in articles getting marked as read. My question is simple: how do I "set the score file atom 'mark'"? Thanks, eric -- : Eric S Fraga, GnuPG: 0xFFFCF67D : in Emacs 25.0.92.1 + Gnus v5.13 + evil-git-ff74cfb : BBDB version 3.1.2 (2015-10-28 10:47:01+00:00) ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 6+ messages in thread

Thanks. I did solve the problem: the variable to customise is gnus-summary-mark-below. However, as the info documentation didn't make sense to me, I would like to also make sense of what you have suggested. What exactly do you mean by customising a score file? The xxx.ADAPT file gnus creates does not have "Mark" in it. Sigh. There's always a command that I didn't know about.
