I think the auto-reconnection to dropped connections is an important thing as well. * Proper article counts (for backends which make this possible). * Async/background signature checking, so as to not prevent articles from being displayed. * More async/background behavior would be nice, but I'm not sure how far we can push this inside Emacs.
