I think there is a misunderstanding. `M-x gnus' comes up with the wrong
number. `g' does nothing to restore the correct number. `M-g' gets the
right number, at which point `g' gets the right number. After quitting
using `q' and then using `M-x gnus' again, the wrong number is back.
