Stefan and Chong, please let us know. I think this is a very necessary
feature and we can't proceed without knowing if you want us to design it
or not.
I think it would be most productive to let me and Michael put something
in the trunk and see if it's useful. If not we'll revert it. Michael's
design can be extended to support other locations besides the modeline.
