I've asked, a couple of additional thoughts wrt adding a workaround:
+ Workarounding missing expunges seems not very convenient, serializing
everything may be a bit excessive?
+ Detecting affected servers will be hard, imagine that this patch gets
pushed to Debian stable (which IMO should be), how would you detect
it?
