Reading HTML/Text Parts

I am getting email that has both HTML and Text parts.  When reading the
email in Gnus, I'd like to see the email in Text format.  Instead, I am
seeing the HTML part but with the tags stripped out.  While that's
better than seeing the HTML tags or having it rendered by W3, how can I
configure things so that I see the Text part by default if it is
available?

Running No Gnus 0.7 with XEmacs 21.4.17.

I use this to avoid HTML:

  ;; Don't display html inline
  (setq
   mm-discouraged-alternatives '("text/html" "text/richtext" "text/enriched")
   mm-automatic-display (remove "text/html" mm-automatic-display))

I prefer not to see that people have sent me HTML-parts (I'm a prude and
look down on people who do so, so I avoid my own judgmentalism), so I've
chosen not to.
