Subject: ANNOUNCE: nndb 0.9
Date: Mon, 15 Apr 1996 12:21:32 -0600	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <9604151821.AA07858@arls2006.asas.den.mmc.com> (raw)

nndb version 0.9 is at <URL:ftp://ftp.fuentez.com/pub/nndb.tar.gz>.

The main new things are documentation, working split rules, and group
authentication. Also new are the STAT and TOUCH commands.

There are some changes to nndb.el, but I haven't pulled in Kai's
newest release, yet. 0.10 should be out soon, with a better,
stronger, faster nndb.el. We have the technology to rebuild
it. (reference to the now-obscure american TV show "$6M Man").

Here are the ChangeLog entries:

Mon Apr 15 11:30:52 1996  Joe Hildebrand  <hildjj@fuentez.com>

	* nndb.PL: released version 0.9

	* lib/NNDB/NNTP.pm (STAT): add it.
		(TOUCH): add it.

	* lib/NNDB/Xover_DB.pm (mod_time): add it. What is the
		  modification time of the given article?
		  (touch): add it.

	* nndb.PL: only do read_file if file is normal.

Sat Apr 13 18:04:04 1996  David Blacka  <blackad@arlh012.den.mmc.com>

	* db_reorg.PL: Added.  This is an off-line DB_File reorganize.  I
				couldn't get the same technique to work within NNDB.

	* Utils.pm: Added maybe_reorganize code. So far, it only works on
			  GDBM databases.

	* t/db.t: Added test code for the maybe_reorganize code.

	* DB_Article.pm: Added support code for maybe_reorganize.

	* Xover_DB.pm: Added support for maybe_reorganize.

	* nndel.c: Made the write_sock() routine check for a "good" response
			 codes from the server. It should not delete the maildir file
			 unless it gets a positive acknowlegement.

	* NNTP.pm: Made the accept_article() method return a meaningful
			 response when group authorization fails.

Fri Apr 12 13:48:06 1996  David Blacka  <blackad@arlh012.den.mmc.com>

	* nndb.PL: added pod documentation.

	* Group_Auth.pm: Added logging for initialization and denials.

Thu Apr 11 13:47:10 1996  David Blacka  <blackad@arlh012.den.mmc.com>

	* nndel.c: added check for I_SYS_FILE;  On HP-UX I_FCNTL is
			 undefined, but I_SYS_FILE is, and <sys/file.h> includes
			 fcntl. Thanks to Ulrich Pfiefer.

	* Group_Auth.pm: Added.

	* nndb.PL: Added hooks for group_auth stuff.

	* Config.pm: Added "group-auth-file" config option.

	* DB_Article.pm: Added pod documentation.

	* DB_Article.pm: Changed debug code to use NNDB::Debug.

	* DB_Article.pm: Changed configure() method to use named values as
		            per suggestion by Ulrich Pfiefer. Cleaned out old
	   	            configuration options.

	* DB_Article.pm: Changed delete_article() to not refigure the new
				  last article number.

	* MH_Article.pm: Changed configure() method to use named values as
				  per suggestion by Ulrich Pfiefer. Cleaned out old
				  config options. Edited pod documentation to reflect
			       change.

	* MH_Article.pm: Changed delete_article_file() to not refigure the
				  new last article number.

	* NNTP.pm: Added new Group_Auth stuff. It now checks for
			 permissions at the protocol level.

Wed Apr 10 12:38:43 1996  David Blacka  <blackad@arlh012.den.mmc.com>

	* lib: Capitalized all lower-case modules; made collateral changes in
	   	  all of the perl files that 'use'd those modules.

	* MANIFEST: changed to reflect new module names.

Tue Apr  9 15:26:00 1996  David Blacka  <blackad@arlh012.den.mmc.com>

	* MH_Article.pm: fixed bug that would cause server to hang or
	   	     crash when selecting an empty or non-existant group.

Mon Apr  8 14:57:40 1996  Joe Hildebrand  <hildjj@fuentez.com>

	* lib/NNDB/NNTP.pm (accept_article): log duplicate deletion.

	* server_copy.PL: fixed typo to /^480/
