Wasn't the default value of gnus-post-method supposed to change to
`current'? In my Gnus it's still nil.

Mine is 'current' (by default - I don't set it). According to the
Changelog, it was done on 1999-11-06 04:24:30.

You use Gnus from CVS, right? I use the last released version, I
think.
