I see.  But it seems to need a great effort, so I'm not quite
positive to do that now (that I'm not familiar with PGG is also
the reason to say so).  Do you have a will to do that?
Otherwise, how about doing it after Emacs 22.1 is released?

You're right.  However, Gnus users have been using it only with
text for a long time.
