I've also tested the nntp-open-via-rlogin-and-netcat method
locally. There is no firewalls, the ssh configuration is:
Host HostA
ForwardX11 no
Protocol 2
and the server setting is:
(nntp "LocalNewsServer"
(nntp-address "LocalNewsServer")
(nntp-open-connection-function nntp-open-via-rlogin-and-netcat)
(nntp-via-address "HostA")
(nntp-via-netcat-command "/some/where/bin/nc")
(nntp-via-rlogin-command "ssh")
(nntp-via-rlogin-command-switches ("-C" "-e" "none")))
There's no problem, sigh.
