[OT]Any fixes around for Google groups

A little off topic, but I wondered if others are noticing the mess
that google groups has become?  I guess it is really groups-beta but
regular groups is not available apparently.

Close to half the page is now taken up with annoying side bars.

Both sides are unrelated to google groups search.

It appears to only be the `groups' searches that have been ruined like
this. `web' and `images' looks like it has for quite a while.

The `preferences' link doesn't show any ways to change the appearance
or page layout.   Anyone no if it can be changed at all?

I don't like the new interface as well.  Much of the available space
is taken by unnecessary cruft (as you wrote before), proportional
fonts are used, search strings like "foo-bar" are not equivalent to
"foo-bar\|foobar\|foo\s-bar" anymore, matching articles of a single
thread are scattered over the search results etc. pp.

So currently I am using <URL:http://groups.google.de/grphp?hl=en>
which still has the old interface, and is in English.  Other language
sites will probably behave this way, too.  But for how long ...

I submitted a complaint about this to the feedback form last week,
suggesting that they provide either a per-user global option or,
better yet, a per-group/regex option to control whether a fixed-width
typeface should be used.
