Highlighting with Emacs-cvs

(Sorry if this has been discussed before, I could not find anything
useful on google.)


After updating to Emacs cvs (GNU Emacs 22.0.50.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu,
Motif Version 2.2.2)) the Group and Summary buffer highlighting of
Gnus (No Gnus v0.3) does not work anymore,. 
All lines are displayed in "plain" fonts, whereas they used to be bold
for Groups with unread messages before, for example. Also no coloring
takes place.

In other buffers (e.g. cc-mode or auctex) syntax highlighting works.


Any hints on why that is and how to solve it are welcome.

Just updated Emacs and Gnus; no problem here.

Do you get see any errors in the *Messages* buffer?  You could also
try to obtain a backtrace (in case it is an error) by starting Emacs
with `emacs --debug-init' and/or putting `(setq debug-on-error t)'
into your init file.

Nope, everything runs smoothly, just without faces. Even Article and
message buffers show correct face-locking, only Graoup and Summary ar
kinda "boring" and hard to scan visually.

I have perfectly normal behavior.  I only use special faces in the
*Group* buffer, but the *Summary* works just like it should.

Believe me, i would have made noise long ago if this didn't work =)


GNU Emacs 22.0.50.9 (i386-unknown-freebsd5.3, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll
bars)

No Gnus v0.3.

I believe that it does work for many people. However, I do not have
any face customization in my .emacs/.gnus files and I am really
clueless as where to start. 

What is a good way of getting an "emacs -q" to display a Group in a
Group buffer?

What exactly changed?  Did you only upgrade from Emacs 21.x to Emacs
CVS?  Do you still see the colored Group buffer in Emacs 21.x?

Does `C-u C-x =' (describe-char) show anything extraordinary?

Start with http://my.gnus.org/node/267.  Maybe continue with
`gnus-group-browse-foreign-server'...

solved: Highlighting with Emacs-cvs

Embarrassingly enough, my problem was a stale

| (setq font-lock-keywords 't)

in my .Emacs (which I was even to stupid to find using C-s). Taking
that line out resolved the problem; moreover don't I have any idea why
it was there in the first place. (I also don't see why it does make
any difference between 21.3 and 22, but then my elisp understanding is
quite low.)

Well, that argument is somewhat weakened by the font-lock-keywords
setting...

Looked quite normal to me, but I wouldn't even really know what to
look for in these describe-text buffers.
