In your ~/.authinfo (or whatever your `nntp-authinfo-file' points to),
don't list servers that doesn't need authentication. Also, make sure
you don't have any authentication functions (like nntp-send-authinfo)
_always_ called from `nntp-server-opened-hook' and friends.
