Hi, I evaled the form
(open-network-stream "nntpd" (current-buffer) "SERVER-NAME" "nntp")
and get
connection failed: operation in progress, news, nntpd
I would very much like to know why it does this because I think this
is related to my problem. This appears to happen more often than not
when I've already got a connection open. At this time I'm slurping
news in the background with "slurp"
Why does it do this?

There was a bug in XEmacs 19.13 that would lead to this result quite
often. What Emacs version are you using?

I get the same message (I had to wait some days for verification until
the server/network had enough load again). It's on 19.14 XEmacs, Gnus
5.2.38, Solaris2.4.
