Server offline, loosing all subscriptions and marks

Hi, recently news.gmane.org was down and I lost all subscriptions of
gmane.* groups.  I'd have expected the gmane.* groups still listed in
the Group buffer with a "*" for the article count.  But they were
simply gone and with them all the marks.

I didn't start Gnus with gnus-no-server nor hit C-g during startup.

gnus-agent is t, nntp-marks-is-evil is t too, but news.gmane.org isn't
agentized.

Any chance to change this behaviour?

I did some further testing on this.  Setting gnus-agent to nil didn't
help.  But I noticed that only groups are affected, that are
subscribed via the server buffer.

Still no idea why Gnus is forgetting everything about these groups
when the news server carrying them goes offline :-/
