Only supports kook fringe mta's. TMDA currently supports the most widely used opensource/unix MTAs other than Sendmail (qmail, Postfix, and Exim). There is a chance that Sendmail will be supported in the future, but it will really be some sort of hack. Sendmail makes things very difficult for me. TMDA (which is invoked from .forward/.qmail) needs full access to the message envelope to operate (envelope recipient address, envelope sender address, etc.). Believe it or not, Sendmail has thrown away the entire envelope by the time it reaches .forward. The requirements for e-mail applications today are different than they were a decade ago, but Sendmail has made little effort to keep up. In my book, Sendmail wins the "pioneer" award for being the first to market, but that is no reason to continue using it today when there are several *superior* alternatives available.
