As you mentioned, spam is generally easy to recognize, but hand deletion is subject to human error, and again is time-consuming. I hate to brag, but I used to get 800-1000 pieces of spam every month. Now I see 1-2 every six weeks or so. And my system requires practically no maintenance - it runs itself. I can't tell you how much time this has saved me. But more importantly, it has restored my love of e-mail. I once again look forward to opening my mailbox each morning.
