narrow-to-region ??  What if two emacsen are running?

Please don't save it to .emacs nor to .gnus.  Maybe .gnus.eld?

The user owns .emacs and .gnus .  The user might want to know the date
of her last change to it.  The user might be testing something and
want to be able to diff against .emacs~.
