Does it work to say `(sleep-for 0.1)' instead?

I remember that the reason for the sit-for was to avoid a race
condition where emacs hogs the system and leave no CPU time for
OpenSSL (or other external processes) to run and generate data for
Emacs to read.  This might have been fixed in modern emacsen though.
