I vaguely remember that somebody talked about GNU MAPI and mapi.el or
somesuch. I googled a bit but all I found sounded as it if invoked
Gnus on mailto URLs.

What I need is a way to send mail without SMTP, but using the Exchange
thing instead. Does this exist?

Kai

Thanks! So you don't know which one works, either? Maybe Marcus
knows, I'll ask him...

Kai

Well, I'm still here and read this list but I suggest we should switch
over to mail exchange for we could write in German then and post our
solution (if we find an appropriate one) here.

I assume you didn't find an appropriate solution?

Yes, unfortunately this is correct. We (Kai and myself) had some private
mail exchanges but we haven't found a solution yet. Hrmpf! :-(

The exchange server at work allows IMAP and POP3, but it uses an
authentication method not supported by Gnus (or Eudora). I can't
remember offhand what it is.

There's also a live SMTP server, but it refuses relaying for
everything.

I've been thinking about investigating if there is support for this
authentication method in Gnus, and if the same (or a different)
authentication method can be used when sending mail with SMTP. But
I've never gotten around to it.

NTLM? No Gnus will hopefully support it, I think the copyright
situation for the SASL Elisp package has been taken care of now.

Kewl. Will this authentication method work for both IMAP and SMTP?

That's the intention, although I have only written the IMAP part so far.

My situation is similar: I can access the Exchange server by IMAP, thus
I'm able to read the mails with Gnus. I can also send mails by SMTP (via
the Exchange server) but only for corporate mail addresses (i.e. people
in our house or people in our corporate WAN); the Exchange server
doesn't act as an SMTP relay for external addresses which means I have
to send those mails by using Outlook again. :-(

Same here. We really need full MS Exchange support for Gnus.

Marcus

Great news! I'm really looking forward to see this feature enabled!
