It seems like doing too much work, there are two cases; one where "-- " was intended as a morse character, and it will be translated; one where "-- " was the signature separator, in which case it is translated into 'm' so it adds some garbage. The signature separator is not the only sitation, all ASCII art will be garbage. IMHO morse decoding should morse decode everything that even remotely looks like morse and let the user filter out the noise.
