I get this a lot recently:
error in process filter: In imap-parse-body 2
when trying to view old messages in an nnimap group, connected to a
dovecot server on localhost.
How can I debug this?

Did you try to get more output with toggle-debug-on-error?

(setq imap-log t) and post the IMAP log. Look at `imap-parse-body' to
see where this messages comes from. I suspect the server is either
buggy, implement some extension that imap.el don't support, or imap.el
is buggy.
