...except that there isn't an ascii CODING-SYSTEM.  However, using
raw-text gives the expected results under the emacsen I could test
with (xemacs 21.4 nomule, xemacs 21.5 mule, emacs 21.1 native md5 and
elisp md5 and external md5sum).
