Is mailx a IMAP client? If not, maybe the IMAP indices weren't rebuilt properly. > I have tried to kill and resubscribe mailboxes, I have (for a few > mailboxes) deleted all entries in .newsrc.eld and resubscribed, but > still the old messages cannot be displayed. If it is a local cache corruption thing, you could try C-k all groups, remove ~/News and restart emacs and subscribe to the groups again. If this doesn't help, my bet it is a server problem. In case your server admin lost your old mail, you may want to backup ~/News first though (if you keep a cached copy there). Trying with another IMAP client could be useful too.
