Enter an nnimap group. Move an article into an nnml group. Hit 11
M-g (or a similar number). For me, what happens is that I can see a
summary line, marked `O', for the article I just moved. When I hit
`g' on the article, the summary line turns yellow/black as is usual
for a canceled article.

I'm assuming that the erroneous line comes from the overview cache.
Shouldn't the line from the overview cache be removed after moving a
message away from the group?

Can anyone reproduce this?

I think so...

I haven't used nnimap, so I can't... :-/

I can't reproduce this, the article is removed from my summary buffer.

Hm, kill your *imap-log* buffer, enter the nnimap group, type "foo"
into the imap debug buffer, move a article to a nnml group, type "bar"
into the imap debug buffer, press 11 M-g or something, send me the
content of your *imap-log* buffer. Thanks. (Also set
`gnus-keep-backlog' to nil before, if you use that.)

Moving a article only set the IMAP \Deleted flag, it doesn't invoke
EXPUNGE, but Gnus shouldn't mess with already set \Deleted flags and
it should detect them (and ignore the message) when you M-g. Hm.
