That indicates those groups uses a server definition that isn't otherwise known to Gnus. How did you subscribe to the nnimap groups? What does G E look like on one of these groups? How do you set up the nnimap server definition in Gnus (i.e., ~/.gnus or ~/.emacs snippet)?
