According to the documentation:

   * Gnus now has its own startup file (`.gnus') to avoid cluttering up
     the `.emacs' file.

(yea I know this isn't exactly news, but ...)

Other than avoiding clutter are there any other reasons to us a .gnus
file?

Just Curious.
