Authinfo and nntpcache

Authinfo and nntpcache

I'm using nntpcache as my nntp server (from
iq.org/~proff/nntpcache.org), and I'm having a problem using it with
gnus.

I set up that server to require authentication.  However, despite the
fact that I have the proper authentication information in my ~/.authinfo
file for this server, gnus never initiates an authinfo sequence.

I believe that I have nntpcache set up correctly, because other
newsreaders manage to issue the authinfo and get me connected with no
problem.  Also, when I telnet to the nntp port of that nntpcache-based
server and manually issue the authinfo sequence, it works fine and gives
me access to all the groups.

Is anyone here using gnus to connect to any nntpcache-based servers, and
if so, have you encountered and, hopefully, solved this problem?

I have also written a similar question to the nntpcache developer, but I
want to check here as well, in case any of you might be familiar with
this issue.

I'm using nntpcache-3.0.2 and No Gnus v0.11.

Does it help to use `force' as described in (info "(gnus)NNTP")?

No, that doesn't help, unfortunately, because that forces the authinfo
sequence to be sent to *all* nntp servers, including a second,
non-authinfo-enabled server that I'm also using.  For that second
server, the `force' setting forces me to get prompted for a user ID and
password which then get ignored.

What I really need is something that functions like a per-server setting
of `force'.

OOPS! I only noticed "default force yes" in the docs, but I now see it
can be server-specific, as well.

Never mind ... it works now.
