For some reason gnus is not waiting for a period of inactivity prior to checking for new mail, could this be accounting for it? But I don't think that it is checking new mail everytime this happens. I have this in .gnus but it seems to be ignoring it with NoGnus. (require 'gnus-demon) (setq gnus-use-demon t) (gnus-demon-add-handler 'gnus-group-get-new-news 5 1) (gnus-demon-init) Thanks, Aric
