I am longtime emacs/gnus user on linux who is way confused on windows.
After googling a bit I find so much confusing and possibly outdated material
about setting up gnus on windows that I hopped to ask here for a URL or
directions that are current and I can understand.
After fiddling with the settings in thunderbird it seemed to require these
setting to work:
pop:
Server: pop.newsguy.com port 110
User: XXmyuserXX
Connection Security: none
Authentication method: Password Transmitted insecurely
==========================================================
smtp:
Server: smtp.newsguy.com port 25
user: XXmyuserXX
Authentication method: Normal password
Connection security: STARTTLS
Where can I find how that translates into `~/.emacs/.gnus' config?

mail-sources described here:
* http://gnus.org/manual/gnus_179.html#SEC179
and
message-send-mail-function described here:
* http://gnus.org/manual/message_36.html#SEC36
perhaps?
Best regards,
Adam

I could not get the Windows-native GnuTLS to work with Gnus (though
admittedly I gave up after about ten minutes), and I didn't feel like
messing with Cygwin, so I used MSMTP[1]. Works like a charm.

Hey, I wrote that article and am tickled pink that someone out there
found it useful.

Could you let me know the IMAP or POP3 host that failed? If it's
private, would it be possible to give me a temporary account so I can
debug this?
Thanks
Ted

My memory of nearly a month ago is a bit fuzzy, so I'm not *entirely*
sure what I was referring to (especially since the actual incident would
have been at least a month before that), but my best guess is that I was
trying to use SMTP on smtp.gmail.com
I also strongly suspect that my inability to get it to work was due to
user error, not GnuTLS.
