It needs to be in PS form -- otherwise, you won't be able to read the
legend. (It's quite small.)

Looks good, what about using a backwards R in the Red Gnus line?

Yes, but how? I know virtually nothing about Metafont and friends.
Hm. Perhaps I could edit the PostScript file instead? Unfortunately,
I have no idea how to do that. Uhm. Perhaps I could do a
PS-to-whatever thingie, and then edit the bitmap with gimp or
something? How does one do that, then? pstopnm seems to flake out on

I know nothing about metafont and tex, but a couple of us here
just hacked on the postscript.

<URL:http://oj.egbt.org/dmoore/ding/back.ps> - the original
<URL:http://oj.egbt.org/dmoore/ding/back.all.ps>	- all Rs backwards
<URL:http://oj.egbt.org/dmoore/ding/back.single.ps>	- large R only

I had to play with the kerning a bit on the all reversed one, and that's
the best I can do with it.

Thanks! Nice flipping, but I think the kerning was overdone. There's
plenty of air between most of the letters, and the reversed r's look
kinda squished up against the preceding letters...

I've now fiddled with it some -- I've unsquashed the r's and flipped

I can't read it with the ghostscript viewer, but a printout works.

What are the last two letters of "doesn't" and "can't"?

A parody is never too cliched. :-) But I think I prefer just having

Weeell, Tovarich.... I would prefer plain old "Proletariat" to
"Proletcult".

Call me a traditionalist, but that's just the way I am.

I like the idea of flipping *a* *lot*, but I've got two things:

  - (simple to fix) the N is upside-down rather than leftside-right,
which means that the serifs come out all wrong. Why don't you
    flip it leftside-right?

  - (difficult to fix) the serif on the R is *truly* ugly.

All of this is MVHO, of course. I'm not sure if I'd prefer sans-serif
due to the serifs problem.

Whatcha think?

It just occurred to me that maybe the problem can be solved by
choosing a font designed for a different size? Like 5pt (very small)
or 20pt (very large)? I'm not sure what will happen, though.

I've now compared an un-flipped version to the flipped version:

1) un-flipped.

"Hm... Looks quite nice."

2) flipped

"Wha...! Uhm, oh, it has reversed r's and n's. Neat!"

The flipped version gives me a double-take -- first I can't understand
what it says, and then it clicks, and I can read it.

So I like the flipped version better.

The N is flipped the same way as the R, so it's mirrored on the Y
axis. Perhaps I should flip the N the other way?

Yup. But even the "real" cyrillic font has that ugly serif there for
the ya letter.

Does anybody have any pointers to some site on the net where some
really real cyrillic things are on display? If it's from the '20s, it
would be even better, but that's not really necessary...

I agree somewhat, but wouldn't it be more correct to say "Proletarian"
than "Proletariat"? (As the former means a member of the latter)
