I think I saw mention of this already but can't find it now.

With todays cvs I'm unable to enter the server buffer.

To set the scene:

Started emacs -q -no-site-file -l path.el &

cat path.el
(add-to-list 'load-path  "/usr/local/gnus_04/lisp")
(add-to-list 'Info-default-directory-list "/usr/local/gnus_04/texi")

[Note: cvs gnus = gnus_04]

Then M-x gnus

Then `^'

But no soap:

[From *Messages*]

[...]

Loading gnus-group...done
Reading active file from enews.newsguy.com via nntp...
Loading gnus-cache...done
Loading timezone...done
No new newsgroups
Checking new news...
Opening nndraft server...

Loading gnus-sum...done
Checking new news...done
Loading gnus-srvr...done
