If you can't just move all the files over for some reason, why not
just create an nnml server pointing at the old directory? If you
want, you can B-c (B-m if permissions are right) everything from
there. It's got to be faster than remailing everything to yourself.

Just enter the server buffer and add an nnml server with some name
like "oldnnml". Then edit that server to specify nnml-directory and
nnml-active-file. Then browse it. I just tested this by copying a
couple of my group directories to a new location and except that I had
to run nnml-generate-nov-databases in that server buffer to get an
active file built it worked just fine. I was able to move and copy
between the two locations easily. I haven't tried it, but I would
guess you could add this extra nnml server to your
gnus-secondary-select-methods list and it'll automatically be opened
whenever you run gnus.
