Hi list,

while reading a newsgroup with the latest CVS gnus, I stumbled over the
error message:

mm-uu-latex-extract: Variable binding depth exceeds max-specpdl-size

and the raw message was displayed. I have never seen this before. Can
anyone reproduce this? The MID of the post is <dr510i$v6d$1@online.de>.

I use GNU Emacs 21.3 on Linux.

Bye,

Kevin

I had same problems. I suspect mm-uu-dissect-text-parts is the culprit
from debug error messages.

Could you let me know the group where I can find the post? I'll
look into it tomorrow.

Could you show me the message that cause such an errors?

BTW, you will probably be able to temporarily evade it by
setting the gnus-article-emulate-mime variable to nil.

Try this:
<43BC0B16.6060607@student.lu.se> in gmane.emacs.devel

It is in de.comp.text.tex, posted on 24.1.06. BTW as you suggested in
your other mail, setting gnus-article-emulate-mime to nil works around
the problem.

Bye,

Kevin

Hm, when following the link
nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.lisp.steel-bank.devel/6366 I also get
"exceeds max-specpdl-size", but when using `j'
(gnus-summary-goto-article) I don't (with a Gnus trunk build
2006-01-24 11:23 GMT).

An observation that might or might not be relevant: Both article have
"format=flowed".

Bye, Reiner.

This workaround does work.

Thanks all. I've fixed it.

The problem is likely to occur when an article contains RCS
diffs or LaTex sources. mm-uu will dissect them into
text/x-patch parts or text/x-verbatim parts respectively. In
the later case, the text/x-verbatim part contains just a LaTex
source, and mm-uu dissects text/* parts recursively nowadays, so
it keeps dissecting the part infinitely. Nevertheless we cannot
stop attempting to dissect text/x-patch parts and
text/x-verbatim parts, since they might have PGP signatures and
so forth. cf.
http://news.gmane.org/group/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/thread=61730

I've modified the mm-uu-dissect-text-parts function so as to
ignore it if a given part is dissected into a single part of
which the type is the same as the given one.

I could. I needed to set mm-uu-diff-groups-regexp to "" because
I tested it on the article copied into the local nnml group,
though.

It is reasonable if you did it in the group that doesn't match
mm-uu-diff-groups-regexp.

It is irrelevant, I think.
