A first take on this shows Pressing `B r' on a single message Then run edebug and step through the code the message is deleted and does not appear on reopening. Close gnus restart emacs,gnus and try a buffer of 4 messages with no edebug and the same ghost phenomena occurs. I'm checking now what happens to the actual .overview.
