I've now added a startup jingle to Gnus -- it can be found in the next
etc.tar.gz package.  11 seconds.  I probably should get in touch with
the publishers to clear it or something.

Is there a way to play sound files asynchronously when using the
built-in sound thingies?

Uh...  Is this forced or optional?  IE, is sound going to spew forth
from the machine up stairs that I'm running gnus on??? :-/

Selectable by user option.  See the variable gnus-play-startup-jingle.
