The Gnus FAQ recommended it practically from day 1. It has been the default MIME package in XEmacs since XEmacs 19.15. Gnus is now taking over that area itself and it really should preserve backwards compatibility particularly with respect to user interface. Gnus is *changing* the binding of `q' which formerly meant quit the MIME viewer and return to the *Summary* buffer to exit the group. This is dead wrong IMO. There's similar braindamage in BBDB 2 -- the M-TAB fuckage it introduced has got to go. That key belongs to ispell.
