Well, I just had our news server switched to dnews from inn, which
means that all the numbers changed on me. So, I picked myself up and
ran gnus-group-clear-data-on-native-groups to clear all the numbers
and have been painfully making my way through the groups again.

The problem is that it also cleared my nnml groups as well. Shouldn't
it prompt for the backend you want to clear or something?

Wes

Ouch! nnml groups should not be tied to an nntp server. nnml
groups also should not have their readedness information/marks,
etc. cleared if the group is (accidentally) unsubscribed.

I would propose an additional control file (.groupinfo) to go along
with .overview in each nnml group to fix both problems.

What are the last two letters of "doesn't" and "can't"?
Coincidence? I think not.

Yikes. It'll clear data on all groups. *danger* *danger*. Fix in
Red Gnus v0.50.

You mean that the backend should also store what messages have been
read and so on? Well, that would make sense, I guess. Once labels
(and stuff) have been implemented, this'll be easy enough to add.

Thats exactly what I said... After I did it.

Anyway, don't forget to read my gnus-bug message about dealing with
cached articles too, as the numbers of the cached articles sets the
upper limit on the 'articles read' giving newsgroups with strangely no
new news in them for days because the cached articles reset the last
read article to something really high again...
