Definitely a separate flag. You don't necessarily need to set Mail-Followup-To *from Gnus* at all. I have: (setq message-send-mail-function 'message-send-mail-with-qmail) so mail messages are submitted to the qmail-inject program, which can insert Mail-Followup-To fields when they aren't already present. paul
