Commands for all the things one wants. A MIME composition language. Of course, one could add a gazillion MIME composition commands so that people doesn't have to write stuff like that unless they really want to. The most common command would be @externalpart{image/gif}{~/rms.gif} (Er. Or something.) which isn't really more intrusive than the current buttoney approach. Now, I really like TeXinfo, but I realise that some weird people might not, so I don't know whether this really is a good idea or not.
