Hello,

I'm getting a strange behavior of Emacs when making info files in Gnus
distribution. The process of making the info files "freezes" at some
point (AFAICT constant for the different runs). Emacs is running hard
(taking 100% CPU on the otherwise idle machine), but won't finish the
process. This happened to me with GNU Emacs-20.1, but when I upgraded
to Emacs-20.2, I managed to build info files several times
successfully. So, I thought that that was a bug of Emacs-20.1. But now
I got the same with Emacs-20.2 and qgnus-0.31. Just now I see the
following:

...
Converting message.texi to Info format...
Formatting: Message ...
Formatting: Interface ...
Formatting: New Mail Message ...
Formatting: New News Message ...

Are the Gnus' texinfo files too hard/big? :)

	Best regards, -- Vladimir.

I've had a few similar reports, and all with Emacs 20.x users. Could
the people who have Emacs 20.x handy try to make the Gnus info pages
with that one and 1) see whether it manages to compile them, and 2)
see if they can determine what makes it bug out?

Emacs 20.1/20.2, XEmacs 20.5, and makeinfo-1.68 all work O.K. for me.

makeinfo works for me, but not Emacs 20.2.

Emacs will hang when formatting (not always in the same place), and
when I quit with C-g, I am left with a `gnus' buffer with hundreds of
thousands of blank lines.

Using:

GNU Emacs 20.2.1 (i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1, X toolkit) of Fri Dec 19
1997 on localhost

Quassia Gnus v0.31; nntp 5.0; nnvirtual 1.1; nnml 1.0; nnmh 1.0;
nndraft 1.0; nnfolder 1.0

Backtrace:

Signaling: (quit)

Interesting. Who is the texinfo.el maintainer? I think we should
forward this to him/her.

Robert J. Chassell <bug-texinfo@prep.ai.mit.edu>

I have forwarded my previous message.

After I forwarded this problem to bug-texinfo@prep.ai.mit.edu, RMS
suspected a bug in filling and requested more details.

I provided the details, but RMS was unable to reproduce the problem.
He suggests I try it again when 20.3 is released.

Also, this bug seems to have gone away with v0.34.

huh...

In my case it appeared with 0.27, 0.32 and 0.34 (what happened to
release 0.33?)
