I think nndoc's algorithm for guessing mail box format can/should
be improved. I have had many mboxes mis-guessed. Since other
formats like babyl are not so common anymore, if there is
ambiguity I think mbox should be preferred, or at least the user
queried.

Well, I'd be surprised if nndoc ever guessed that something was babyl
when it wasn't, since that's such a distinctive format.

What formats is it that gets mixed up?

I checked, and actually they were guessed as 'mime-parts'. It
might be because the first message has attachments (mime parts).

If you want mbox interpretation, you can use `C-u C-d', I think.

Ok that worked. But I see that as a workaround to a bug. Anyone
that didn't see this post by you wouldn't know what to do except
delete the group and add it again with explicit 'mbox' type.

It's not really ambiguous in the file right?

If it is, I would rather have it err on the side of mbox. So if
you open a single-message-of-multiple-mime-parts, you have to C-u
C-d on that message, rather than the reverse (open an mbox and
have to C-u C-d on the first message to see all messages in a
file)

Or they could have typed `C-h k C-d', or read the manual. Stranger
things have happened. :-)

It is. Which interpretation the user wants varies...
