I'm trying to put my outgoing folder in a different directory from my
incoming mail. Setting the nnml group's parameters to:
((nnml-directory "~/foo"))
fails to do any good. ptero still looks in ~/Mail for the directory.
Is there any way around this?

Yes. You have to edit the virtual nnml server to reflect the values
you want to have in the server.
