You are right.  I had already upgraded to that version, but not
byte-compiled the new version.  Once I did that, the Gcc: didn't cause
any more trouble.

I still have to manually set 

(setq imap-enable-exchange-bug-workaround t)

though, to avoid the *:* problems.
