I turned on duplicate suppression (by setting gnus-suppress-duplicates
to true), and now I see an article marked with M every now and then.
The documentation says that the articles are marked as read, which is
fine for newsgroups, but what about mail groups? I think I want the
dupes to be marked as expirable, not as read.

There is no pre-defined functionality in Gnus for doing this.

Well, err, is there an entry in the Newest Features list, now? A
generic mechanism would be sufficient, I guess :-)

I don't think this would be all that useful, so I'm not going to write
it. :-)

(I know this is old, but...)

Are you saying that it's not useful for duplicate supression to be
able to mark articles as 'E' for people not using total-expire? If
so, then why?

I have no idea what I meant by that. This is clearly a bug. Fixed in
CVS in a few minutes.
