I have a group whose name is
[Google Mail]/Sent Mail
this is from an IMAP connection gmail so its fully qualified name is
nnimap+riley:[Google Mail]/Sent Mail
I guess there is some way I could alias this to something easier like
"SentMail" to make it easier for other operations like splitting,
copying, moving etc?

If you're talking about expanding when prompted, you should be able to
just mention a unique bit of it and then type TAB.
