But here's what I can't quite wrap my head around: When do you sync these, and when don't you? To take an example: You're using the FooIMAP server, which doesn't have "*" in the PERMANENTFLAGS, so you don't store the Gnus flags. Then somebody upgrades FooIMAP, and then "*" arrives in PERMANENTFLAGS. Now we want to sync the extra flags, too. Since, naturally, the first time you use it after the upgrade, there's no gnus-* flags on the server, so nnimap deletes all your local flags. That's not very nice behaviour. So... nnimap has to store whether the group supports uploading flags. If that status changes from "" to "*", then nnimap has to upload the extra flags for all the articles. Or something.
